Make your reservations now if you've ever wanted to take a ride on the pedal powered bikes along the Adirondack Scenic Railroad, because you may not be able to for much longer.

I'm super sad to hear this news! I've been wanting to try this adventure for a while now and it seems as though this summer may be my last chance.

Rail Explorers provides this super cool outdoors-y experience without having to be super outdoors-y. Hiking looks cool in pictures and all, but I have never been super interested in actually going on a hike (although I have made an effort on several occasions). So, instead of trekking out on a day-long hike in the Adirondacks, it actually allows you to enjoy the great outdoors by peddling along the Adirondack Scenic Railroad. So, not only is this a totally out-of-the-box experience, but it's not too strenuous, either. While the tour is 6 miles long, it looks like it's pretty smooth-sailing and only takes about an hour each way. Plus, you only have to go one way because there's a shuttle to take you back!

I first heard about the Rail Explorers adventure last summer but didn't get a chance to actually make it happen, and now it looks like if I don't do it this summer, I may be S.O.L. According to governor.ny.gov, Governor Cuomo has signed off on a proposal to rip up the historic rail tracks in the Adirondacks to build an $8 million bike track.

The proposal is apparently part of a plan to create a 119-mile travel corridor to boost tourism between Remsen and Lake Placid. It's pretty lengthy, but you can read all the details HERE. Not everyone is keen on this idea, as you can see by Rail Explorers Facebook post:

So, whether you want to help preserve the tracks or at least go on one last adventure, you should make a reservation soon.
