Ever wanted to see glass blown, on a boat, on the Hudson? Well, here is your chance!

The Corning Museum of Glass have taken to the open sea. Okay, so maybe not the open sea but they have embarked on voyage up the Hudson and along the Erie Canal retracing the steps of their predecessors the Brooklyn Flint Glassworks which traveled to Corning and became the Corning Glassworks in 1868.

The GlassBarge (not actually made of glass) will be making stops along it's voyage and doing live glass-making demonstrations to share their "passion for this magical and ancient material, glass with the public" and to commemorate 150 years of glassmaking in Upstate New York.

All the demonstrations are FREE are planned from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. while in port however, seating is limited. You can register online for specific demonstration locations and times or you can just show up and try your luck. The GlassBarge will be docked in Troy through Friday in Waterford this weekend and then it heads off to Amsterdam and Canajoharie.

I have actually tried doing this once and it is not as easy as those professionals make it look! However, it is really cool (and really hot tbh) to watch it all come together! for more information on the GlassBarge's travels you can click here or click here to get a peek and what they do!
