As reported by the Times Union, General Electric announced that it will be laying off 130 hourly workers in their Niskayuna and Schenectady locations.  Reportedly, employees were notified at a meeting this past Friday, and the layoffs will be happening in the next two weeks.  According to the Times Union, hourly workers from different job roles will be laid off, however scientists and researches will not be effected.

This sounds like an awful way to kick off the new year.  While I've never been subject to being laid off, I have close family members and friends who have dealt with working for a corporation, working for a union, and being laid off.  Being laid off can be devastating to not just an employee, but their families as well.  I'm also a firm believer that everyone's job is important in the work place.  From the entry level to the trained professional, each role in important, and I for one know some union laborers who work their butts off day in and day out. I'm hoping for the best for all of those involved, and that those effected will find some work force resolution.
