Billions of people everyday wake up and take their vitamins.  You think you are increasing your life span by getting all the necessary supplements, but a recent study shows the vitamin use could potentially shorten your life.

We have heard for years to make sure that you take your vitamins, but as it turns out not taking them may have actually been good for you.  According to Yahoo Health, a new study shows that taking vitamins may shorten your life instead of helping you live a long healthy one.  I know what your thinking, that's crazy talk.

The study done by the Archives of Internal Medicine found that taking certain supplements may actually speed up death.  Not like a fast forward or anything but anytime they say that something has the potential to speed up death, I tend to stay away from it.   So what supplements did they find that did speed up death?

  • Folic Acid
  • Iron
  • Magnesium
  • Zinc
  • Copper
  • Multivitamins

Yahoo Health contributor Bill Phillips says that he's not going to stop taking his daily supplements as a result of this study because he wasn't sold on the results.  A couple reasons he gave on the pro side of vitamin taking was that they didn't test a placebo group, they followed a group of older women and dozens of studies have found benefits in taking vitamins.   So you be the judge for yourself.  Personally, my Grandmother is well into her 80's and takes vitamins every single day.  I think I'll stick with the vitamins.
