Big upset in college hoops yesterday as number one seeded Duke was eliminated by the Arizona Wildcats.

As time wound down in the Duke Arizona game, it was clear that the Blue Devils would have to wait till next year.  All at once millions of brackets became nothing but garbage because Duke was heavily favored to win the entire tournament.  That is now but a dream.  Arizona comes out with the big 93-77 upset.  You can credit Arizona sophomore Derrick Williams with the slaying of the giant.  He scored 32 points and was 5-6 from 3 point range. Arizona' s defense was so good they held Duke guard Nolan Smith to just 8 points, when he normally averages 21.  Such is March Madness, unpredictable and unforgiving.

A year ago the Butler Bulldogs were the biggest Cinderella story of the tournament when they made it all the way to the championship game against Duke.  They lost that game, but are well on their way back there.  They come up with a big upset against Wisconsin, 61-54.  The Bulldogs were up by as much as 20 at a point but do manage to hang on for another elite eight appearance.

Butler senior Matt Howard once again leading his team with 20 points.  Butler has a much tougher opponent on their hands in the next round.  They will be facing the Florida Gators who beat the BYU cougars 83-74 in overtime.

Florida managed to keep Jimmer Fredette away from the hoop in most of the first half but it was only a matter of time before he found a way to score.  Jimmer did have 32 points, but the rest of the team struggled against a much bigger Florida team.  So it looks like that is it for the Glens Falls native who is a senior this year, though he will end up in the NBA.  How well he will do on the professional level is yet to be seen.

I wouldn't really call UCONN's 74-67 win over San Diego State an upset though they were seeded lower.  UCONN has been amazing since the Big East tournament so it is no surprise that they have come this far.  Kemba Walker has been nothing short of amazing this season.  He comes up with another big night last night as he drops 36 points on the Aztecs.   I do know several people who thought that San Diego State would be this years "dark horse" team, but they are now done.

The rest of the sweet 16 happens tonight and my fingers are crossed that North Carolina (UNC) can survive a very tough Marquette team.  If UNC doesn't come up with the win by bracket is officially done.  The remaining number one seeds are in action tonight as well, Ohio State takes on Kentucky and Kansas faces Richmond.  I think both Kansas and Ohio State survive tonight, but hey, I also thought Duke would slide past Arizona and we see how that went.
