Boozy Sunday brunch in the am hours could be coming to the Capital Region if Cuomo can get the archaic NYS liquor laws updated.

Personally I avoid getting up in the am hours on the weekends if at all possible but if you are a morning person and would like to head out to brunch on a Sunday before noon and enjoy a Bloody Mary or Mimosa then you'll be excited to learn that Gov. Cuomo is looking to make that a possibility! It's not just brunch drinks either, growler fills for a Sunday BBQ or Sunday football or purchasing or enjoying wine from a winery are included too.

Apparently the liquor laws in NYS have barely been updated since the end of prohibition and as it stands the updates that have been made are confusing and often times contradict themselves. The Governor is trying to push at least one of a couple of bills to get put into play. According to the Times Union one would allow bars and restaurants with existing liquor licenses to serve alcohol at 10am and apply for permits up to 12 times a year, so that businesses could sell alcohol for on-premises consumption on Sunday as early as 8 a.m. The second bill would be to simply roll back all Sunday sales at bars and restaurants to 8am.

Like I said I try to avoid the am hours whenever possible however if there is a fun event going on or a holiday or something, I have been know to get up early to do a little day drinking. Plus not everyone works a 9-5 I feel like 3rd shifters should be able to enjoy a drink after work. So as long as we all drink responsibly I'm in for the new update.
