With hurricane Irene on the way this weekend I'm sure most of you are preparing for it. Being that we are from upstate NY, we really haven't seen much in the way of hurricanes per say, but Irene could be somewhat of a problem for us. With her she is bring tons of rain and winds that could possibly gust up to 70mph. Not like we need to panic or anything, but it might be a good idea to get a few items or just make sure the items you have are in working order. Right now it's unclear as too how sever Irene's effects will be here in the Albany area since it's still so far out, but if it gets bad you're going to want to be prepared.

    Water

This is one thing you are going to want to make sure you have plenty of. If Irene packs the punch that they are promising, we could see massive power outages and there is no telling how long that will last. So stock up on water, because when it comes to survival necessities, water is number one.

    DVD Entertainment

Say the scenario is that Irene comes and isn't strong enough to knock out power completely, but does know out cable. For me, that also means the internet is down. Make sure you have enough DVD entertainment to get you through. Boredom is the number one cause of suicide, don't quote me on that. TV shows on DVD are even better, because you can really catch up on something you have been meaning to watch.

    Batteries

Make sure to have batteries of all kinds. If the power does get knocked out, you don't want to be without a way to power a flashlight. Also on that note, make sure that your flashlight is in working order too. Batteries will also come in handy to power a radio in the event of a power outage. You'll want to stay up to date on what is going on, so make sure you have plenty of batteries.

    Board Games

So now the power has gone out, so you have no TV to keep you occupied. Board games are always the way to go. They get everyone involved and will keep your mind off the craziness that is going on all around you. Usually I wouldn't be so down for playing a round of Monopoly, but considering Irene may kill our power for who knows how, I might consider it.

    Stock up on Food

It's going to be a mad rush to the grocery store, so be prepared for that. If it is as bad as they say then you're not going to want to go outside. It will be important to stock up on a few food items to get you through. Bread, milk, maybe some eggs and what not. if your like me then you'll need some pickle flavored chips. Just remember not to get too many things that need to be heated in the microwave in light of the fact that we might not have power.
