Billy Corgan Angry With Amazon Over Leaked ‘Adore’ Reissue Track List

Billy Corgan took to Facebook yesterday to let fans know that he’s angry that online retail giant Amazon prematurely published the track list to the upcoming reissue of the Smashing Pumpkins‘ ‘Adore.’

He had plans to release the new list, which is more than 100 songs long, yesterday when he discovered the track list already visible on Amazon’s website. He wrote on Facebook:

CORRECTION: Amazon decided to break an agreement and post track listing of ADORE first; despite assurances otherwise that asked us to wait

OBVIOUSLY I’ve had ADORE track list for 4 months, and could have posted anytime. But we try to co-ordinate these releases to balance all

So all I can say is that a/ never again will I trust such promises and that b/ for now on I’ll just do right by SP peeps first and foremost…

Corgan posted a longer explanation for his anger on the Pumpkins website. At one point, he blames the record label for telling him to wait four months to release the track list. He goes on to criticize the music industry on a larger scale.

The record business as you already know instinctively is quite bad; and some would say music hasn’t been in such a disadvantageous place in the culture since the selling of commercial music began in the early 1900’s. And I for one have been very outspoken about what I would say are harmful business practices, the kind which place artists in an exploitative position visa vie their rights and ownership of their own work.

It does seem that Corgan expended a lot of effort in putting the album together. The reissue includes separate stereo and mono remixes of the original album, plus 90 bonus tracks spanning six albums and a DVD of the Smashing Pumpkins in concert from the Fox Theater in Atlanta in 1998.

In the meantime, Corgan is playing a handful of solo shows around Chicago, including one coming up Aug. 30 at the Ravinia festival.

And in case you don’t recall, ‘Adore’ is a pretty sweet album.
