Almost a exactly a year ago we told you about how actor and producer Ben Stiller was spotted in Upstate New York around the area of the Dannemora Prison peeping out the manhole that two prisoners escaped out of and had even told some locals that he was in town “doing some research for a movie”.

The entire escape is literally stuff movies are made of but in case you are unfamiliar with the Upstate New York jail break or just need a refresher on how things went down ...

On June 5th, 2015 two inmates at the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, NY managed to make a break for it by digging, sawing, and cutting their way out of the prison. There was a lot going on with this story because while the duo managed to avoid being caught for nearly a month details started to emerge about just how these two got out. Like one of them seducing a married correctional employee and convincing her to bring in supplies and act as a getaway driver. Things didn’t end so well for the escapees (or their accomplices). The correctional employee ended up confessing and getting arrested then a couple weeks later, per NewYorkUpstate.com :

Matt was killed by police June 26 during a search in woods 30 miles west of the prison. Sweat was shot and captured two days later in the same area while heading toward the Canadian border.

Well now we have learned that the "movie" Ben was researching is actually going to be a miniseries that has been picked up by Showtime and is expected to begin filming throughout Upstate New York sometime later on this year!

And according to NYup.com Ben has a pretty solid cast lined up to play the main characters. Actors Benicio del Toro and Paul Dano have been cast to play the two escaped prisoners while actress Patrica Arquette will play their accomplice Joyce Mitchell!

This isn't the first time the prison escape has been filmed for TV. A Lifetime Movie  about the escape has already aired on the network however, something tells me Ben's version of the events might be a bit more up to par.

What do you think? Will you be tuning in when the series airs on Showtime?
