Just a little more than 24 hours after the sound thumping that the SOPA and PIPA bills got online and the subsequent tabling of them in Congress, file locker website MegaUpload was shutdown by the U.S. Department of Justice for alleged piracy of movies and music. The accusers, the same people that helped Congress write the SOPA and PIPA bills, the RIAA and the MPAA. Now RapidShare is thought to be the next take down.
In 2009, a project was started to recreate Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope with just 15 second user submitted clips. Then those clips would all be joined together, in order to recreate the entire movie. You could film the 15 seconds, anyway you liked in any style. Now it looks to be well on it way to being done. It's called Star Wars: Uncut.
Yesterday was the planned "Blackout" of websites all over the internet to protest and make people aware of the two bills working their way through Congress that they say would help protect American Intellectual Property that is being pirated over seas. Those bills are called The Stop Online Piracy Act, or SOPA and the Protect Intelectual Property Act, also known as PIPA. It was, by all measures, a success.
Yesterday, if you used Google at all, you may have noticed that items from your Google+, were mixed in with your search results. They call it Google Search plus Your World. Twitter has come out swinging against it saying it'll give people skewed results. And I have to say, I don't like it, and I agree with them.
Linux, that cool operating system that is free to download and install and use, has been around for almost 20 years, and has been ported to run on a variety of different things, from game consoles that were hacked to smart phones and music players. It can be installed on almost anything. Now TVs are going to be added.
I tried a couple times to come up with a personal story to open this article up, but I just couldn't do it. Sometimes you say something straight from the hip. While I think this Steve Jobs action figure is cool and looks incredibly life like, it creeps me the hell out.
I'm sure there are many of you out there that don't know , what SOPA is. It's the Stop Online Piracy Act, and it's been proposed by some in Congress as a way to combat intellectual property theft. The reason why many oppose it, is because it was written by the lawyers of big Hollywood movie studios and recording companies that want to control how and where you can and can't as well as how much you pay for their music and movies.
The New Year is just a couple days away and everyone has their own Top Lists for every subject under the sun. So when BJ messaged me and gave me a great idea for one of my blogs I jumped on it. The top tech for 2011. My plan was to just do some Google searches and see what the consensus was on this. And BJ pretty much called it in his messages to me, iPhone 4S.
Contrary to popular belief and what you heard in the promo that is currently playing on the air, I am not a danger to Baby New Year. Yes there was the restraining order, but that was a misunderstanding and the meds I am taking are helping.
With just a couple of shopping days left before Christmas, I hope you have found most of your gifts already and are ready for the holiday fun with your families. But if you still need an idea for that last minute gift, you can't go wrong with a game if they have a console. But yeah, they can be expensive. So why not give them something they will use? A gift certificate!
At my home, no one better get between my fiance' Kim and the coffee in the morning. That's the inside joke here at home. Many people enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning or just about anytime of day. And the Keurig Single cup brewer is makes an awesome present for the coffee lover or the tea lover on your holiday list.
Ask anyone who knows me about my Star Wars fandom, and they will tell you I use a Star Wars reference just about everyday. I visit Wookiepedia on a regular basis too, and proud of it. So when I discovered these Star Wars character thumb drives on ThinkGeek, I knew they would make a great stocking stuffer for the Star Wars geek on your list. Including me. (Hint Hint)
