Things are thrilling in the Motley Crue camp, as the band gears up for the first-ever rock band residency in Las Vegas. However, despite all the hoopla and history making coinciding with the Feb. 3-19 stay in Sin City, singer Vince Neil said he is considering splitting from the band after the Vegas shows wrap.
With Metallica‘s intimate, 30th anniversary shows in San Francisco now in the rear view, leaving indelible memories for those who attended and causing those who couldn’t make it to curse their fate, the band is continuing the celebration with a special EP.
Green Day have been busy lately. In addition to filling in for Jane’s Addiction at the Not So Silent Night gig in their native Nor Cal on Dec. 9, since Jane’s had to bail due to a severe illness that has befallen a member of Stephen Perkins’ family, the band also wished Metallica a happy 30th anniversary in the most creative of fashions. Forget a generic Hallmark greeting card or an e card. Green Day sent their fellow Nor Cal statesmen a musical video – a cover of the Misfits‘ ‘Hybrid Moments.’
Metallica are behaving like Santa this holiday season, generously doling out previously unreleased songs from the ‘Death Magnetic’ sessions. They are essentially sonic presents! The latest new-yet-old song is ‘Hell and Back,’ which dropped last night after the band performed the song at its third (of four) anniversary show underplays for fan club members at the Fillmore in San Francisco. It’s ‘Tallica’s 30th birthday but they are the one gifting fans with songs.
The lineup for the second annual DimeBash has been announced. The show is a tribute to the late, great guitarist Dimebag Darrell Abbott, who tragically was gunned down seven years ago on Dec. 8, in Ohio while doing what he loved most: playing guitar. He was performing with his post-Pantera band Damageplan when a disturbed fan opened fire at close range and shot him.
Zakk Wylde is a guitar deity. He’s also a good sport, as he has agreed to be the roastee for Guitar World’s first-ever Rock ‘n’ Roll Roast. Wylde will sit in the hot seat and be subjected to good-natured barbs from fellow rockers, like his former boss Ozzy Osbourne, as well as Anthrax‘s Scott Ian and Slipknot / Stone Sour vocalist Corey Taylor.
Megadeth guru Dave Mustaine was the lead guest on last night’s episode of ‘That Metal Show’ (Dec. 3). He spoke about having to have neck surgery, which almost cost the band its appearance at the Big Four show in New York in September. Mustaine soldiered on with the heart of a champion and played through the pain. He has had the surgery, is feeling better and even showed the scar last night. How metal!
VH1 Classic has affirmed its commitment to metal with ‘That Metal Show’ going strong for nine seasons and the newly launched ‘Metal Evolution’ documentary which is now airing each Saturday night, taking an anthropological look at the genesis and development of the genre. Now, the network has announced that it will dip into the vault and air ‘Behind the Music Remastered: Anthrax‘ on Dec. 3 at 9 PM ET.
After a few weeks of hype, Season 9 of VH1 Classic’s ‘That Metal Show’ kicked off last night (which isn’t its regular night, mind you) with the mother of all interviews and on National Metal Day. The camera-shy, elusive W. Axl Rose agreed to a sit down with Eddie Trunk and co. in the early morning hours in Miami. He was rather candid and shared his thoughts on his lateness and lawsuits. He also revealed his original idea for the ‘Appetite for Destruction’ cover.
