This year has been full of plenty of surprises, one of them being the return of Danny Worsnop to Asking Alexandria after a public and messy split. The singer rejoined the group just before the band embarked on their headlining '10 Years in the Black' tour in celebration of Sumerian Records' 10th anniversary. The tour is still underway, but drummer James Cassells revealed in a new interview that there's an itch to get back in the recording studio with Worsnop.

Fans have been quick to point out that this current run does not feature any songs from Asking Alexandria's latest album, The Black, which was their first with Denis Stoff behind the mic rather than Worsnop. "We toured literally the globe on that album — everywhere from Australia to South America to Europe and North America… everywhere, man — we did some extensive touring on this, so I think a lot of fans that do like it got to see it, and it's cool, but now it's time to look for the next chapter, the next step," Cassells told Loudwire Nights affiliate KFMX in Lubbock, Texas (audio below, transcription via Blabbermouth).

Speaking about Worsnop's return, Cassells explained, "Before this tour, I'd only spoken to Danny once very briefly [and] some of the [other] guys [in the band] hadn't spoken to him at all." He went on to explain that the group needed to ensure they all still enjoy touring together, offering, "But we've just hit the halfway mark on the tour, and it's been amazing — it's probably been one of my favorite tours, I think, I've ever [done] in my career and we're having a great time."

With questions about the road answered, the drummer went on, "So now [that we know] we can obviously perform together better than ever, the shows are doing great, now it's, like, 'Let's get some music written.'"

Cassells detailed how over the next year the intent is to get back in the studio and that the band is always writing new material. "We are gonna lock ourselves away," said the sticksman. "It might take a minute, which I think that's good. Danny's a busy guy — he's got a lot of projects on at the moment. We've been touring pretty much constantly for a while now. Having a little bit of time to lock ourselves away, get creative, get back in that flow. So, yeah, the next year, though, is gonna be a busy year for us — not so much in the forefront, like playing shows etc., but for us as musicians, we're gonna be in the studio, we're gonna be in the practice space, we're gonna working. There's gonna be a lot of work going on, man."

Asking Alexandria's Ben Bruce held a Facebook live event in late October to address the rumors the Worsnop was indeed returning to the group, reuniting the band's original lineup. He explained how their previous singer, Denis Stoff, had been incommunicable, leaving the group with no choice but to move on without him.

The band's headlining tour will rounded out by Born of OsirisI See Stars,After the Burial, Upon a Burning Body and Bad Omens will end on Dec. 6 and the remaining dates can be found at our Guide to Rock + Metal Tours.
