These apps represent the best of the best when it comes to the top applications for Apple devices.

Apple has announced its Design Award recipients for 2014, which puts a spotlight on some of the most innovative, creative and exceptional applications to hit its platforms. In particular, these applications showcase some of the most out-of-the-box approaches towards overall design, enjoyment, practicality and user interface. According to CNET, these awards were officially given out at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference earlier this week.

Starting off the list of winners was the card-sliding, numbers-based game Threes! (which was cloned again and again to the point where its copycats unfairly became more popular than the original, more intuitive app). Astronomy app Sky Guide took a prize for being able to let you point your camera towards the sky and read the constellations you can see. Blek, Leo's Fortune, Yahoo News Digest, Pano Perfect and Teachley: Addimals Adventure are some of the other deserving winners.

There were also two Mac app winners, Cinemagraph Pro and Day One, along with Storehouse taking an award for its iPad edition. In particular, we must advocate Device 6 for being one of the most original iOS games we have ever seen, weaving text-heavy narrative, detective-like sleuthing, an excellent story and a phenomenal presentation into an unforgettable experience.
