Whoa! This was not something I expected to read about happening in our neck of the woods!

Look I'm no stranger to the phenomenon that is earthquakes. I grew up in Southern California where we were all made hyper aware of their existence. I can vividly recall the frequent earthquake drills in school. To be honest, back then when earthquakes did go down the majority of the time we didn't even really bat an eye because they were kind of the norm.

I guess I've been away for so long enough now that I didn't realize how earthquakes were so far from my mind. I've had many friends and acquaintances say to me on several different occasions that earthquakes were one reason why they wouldn't leave Upstate NY. Usually when I'm complaining about the snow and they would say something to the effect of "We may get snow but at least we don't have earthquakes".

Well it looks like they were WRONG! Earthquakes are a thing here and apparently one happened over the weekend. The TU is reporting that

A magnitude 2.2 earthquake gently rumbled the Plattsburgh region shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday night, according to the United States Geological Survey.

and apparently smaller earthquakes hit the area every few years and "moderately damaging" earthquakes hit every few decades.

Nothing more that a bit of shaking was reported this time around but it just goes to show, you can't escape Ma Nature.
