Juell Springs, of Amsterdam, really made the best of his final year of high school this past year when he orchestrated a school-wide fundraiser to raise money for children with cancer.

Juell is a hard worker, and spent his time outside of the classroom working with children for an after school program and also at a local restaurant. But he decided to add something else to his schedule by putting on the fundraiser.

First, Juell had to present the idea to his student body and faculty. Many students and teachers in Juell's school have battled cancer firsthand, and everyone agreed that the fundraiser was a good idea.

Juell's initial goal was to raise $1,000, but the school surpassed that goal within one month!

According to Juell's nominator, " Juell is just a different kind of person, he does things to make people feel better and he always puts o thers before himself. We all think that he finally deserves some recognition from not only our school but our town as well."

As part of the “Hometown Heroes” series, we’ve partnered with County Waste, Latham Ford, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region and Awards by Walsh to celebrate local unsung heroes for their good deeds and honorable work. Thank you, Juell, for all that you do!
