All That Remains Finish Recording New Album

All That Remains Phil Labonte

All That Remains have put in the work and they can now sit back and take a breath while the build up to their next album begins. Frontman Philip Labonte has checked in with a few updates not only on the recording of their new disc, but on the state of metal at the moment.

Labonte and his bandmates have been in San Diego where they’ve been working with producer Josh Wilbur on their next disc and he says in his posting that the new disc will “challenge what All The Remains is and can do.”

The rocker did not reveal an album title or even hint at when the disc might be arriving, but the revelation that recording of the album is complete is a good sign that it will come sooner than later. His post-recording sessions commentary can be read below:

Sittin at a bar at San Diego international airport. Gonna fly home in a lil bit. Our part of the record is done. Nothing more to track. Tones are all picked out and decided on. Solos and over dubs and leads and backing vocals and vocals all done. So in a weird way it’s almost as if we’re done being creative for like 2 years. Now it’s all just doing everything we can to get in front of as many people as we can. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Josh Wilbur. He and his wife are some of the most down to earth and warm people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. Josh helped us in new and unexpected ways to do what we always try to do when we put out a record, and that’s release something that challenges what ALL THAT REMAINS is and can do. He’s a great songwriter and producer, Everyone in ATR was very happy working with Josh. Our long time friend Jim Fogarty was running engineering duties again, and as usual he was awesome to work with and his input was incredibly helpful. He’s been a friend and recorded projects I’ve worked in since I was 17. Over 20 fucking years. I’ve learned a lot from him and I’m glad he keeps putting up with us. So now I leave my beautiful wife in sunny and oppressive California to head back to the hills and mountains of New England. New Hampshire, I’m coming to be in you.

In other Philip Labonte postings, the rocker also commented on the state of metal after some of his longtime peers have curtailed their careers. He states:

So in the past six months bleeding through called it quits, god forbid called it quits, and just today shadows fall has announced that for all intents and purposes they’re calling it quits. I’m so glad ATR have transcended “metal” and have become “musicians.”

But after the post went live, seeing a little backlash, Labonte clarified:

Guys, that last post was about “metal” and it wasn’t about the quality of the bands mentioned. It was a reflection on how arbitrary and fickle “metal” fans are. Stop lookin for hate.

Keep a lookout for more coming from All That Remains in the coming months.
