There are covers, and there are COVERS! Some bands can pull it off and others, not so much. Some covers make you think: 'Man, I think that's better than the original'. Case in point: Shinedown with Simple Man. Ok ok ok, I know you're probably throwing your mouse at your computer in disgust, and that's fine. Skynard made the track and made it well. Shinedown though, yeah, they killed it.

Speaking of killing covers, one song that comes to mind is 'Nutshell'. Originally recorded by Alice in Chains for Jar of Flies, Nutshell tells the story of loneliness and death, which could have something to do with Layne Staley's dealings with heroin addiction and ultimately, his death.

I have to tell you, I dig the original but Staind got me with this one. Maybe it's Aaron Lewis and his delivery. Maybe it's just me. It goes back to what I was saying about Shinedown covering Simple Man. Yes, the Chains made a great song, it's their song and that can never be taken away. But I think Staind (mostly Aaron) took it to the next level. Again, just my opinion.
