A funeral for city firefighter William O'Leary was held in downtown Albany on Monday.

According to the Times Union, William O'Leary was a 16 year veteran the Albany Fire Department who also worked for the city of Rensselaer. He passed away suddenly on Jan. 2 at the age of 52. The service took place at Church of St. Mary's on Capitol Hill and featured full fire department honors. O'Leary was known for his giving spirit. Albany Detective Tom Shea (a friend of 35 years) said, "He wasn't happy until he was helping someone else." Albany Fire Captain Greg Coons worked with O'Leary for 14 years. "You could go south to New York City and north to the Adirondacks and tell someone you were a firefighter in Albany and they'd ask, 'Oh, do you know Willy O'Leary?' It was amazing" he said. R.I.P.
