An aggressive campaign to rid Troy of many dilapidated buildings has begun in the city.

According to troyrecord.com, demolition work began on Tuesday morning in the city of Troy, and Mayor Patrick Madden spoke with the media before the start of the project. 10 scheduled demolitions will take place under a $500,000 which is being funded by the state Attorney General's office. Resident Allan Miller has had to deal with the eyesore of a vacant lot next door to his two-family house for the past five years. The property was gutted by a fire in 2012. Miller said  "I'm very really excited. It's going to be a big improvement for the neighborhood and the city as a whole. Miller also said that he had to deal with the terrible smell of a squirrel infestation along with safety issues. The mayor said "It's been a long time coming. I think it will send a message to the neighborhood. You wouldn't want to live around these, and neither do the neighbors."
