Corey Taylor,  the Slipknot frontman says he wrote the lyrics for the band’s debut album in the bathroom of a porn shop where he used to work. He says he gathered inspiration from Nirvana, Pink Floyd and the writings of Hunter S. Thompson and Allen Ginsberg for the record.

The album was reponsible for bringing Slipknot to the popular front, it spans many genres, has extensive percussion and a overall heavy sound.  Slipknot was well received by fans and critics alike peaking at number 51 on the Billboard charts and has become certified double platinum making it the band's best selling album.
