The Daily Gazette is reporting that Golub Corporation laid off 47 employees at the Price Chopper headquarters in Schenectady on Tuesday.

Mona Golub, the company spokeswoman said that administrative functions were consolidated, outsourced, or eliminated as part of the job cuts. "This reflects our efforts to hone a lean and efficient administrative support team. Nearly 700 employees will remain at at the staff headquarters after the reduction" she added. The company operates 135 supermarkets in six states with nearly 20,000 employees. This was the the third round of layoffs in recent years.  The plan is to rebrand Golub's Price Chopper stores as Market 32 stores, a process that is expected to be a lengthy process. It should be noted that no employees lost their jobs at the Rotterdam distribution center or in the supermarkets, but still, 47 people lost their jobs.
