39 Years Ago: Keith Moon Dies
Today (Sept. 7) we remember drummer Keith Moon of the Who. He died on this day back in 1978 at the age of 32.
The Who are one of the most influential rock bands of all time, with sales of over 100 million albums worldwide. The classic lineup featured Roger Daltrey along with Pete Townsend on guitar, John Entwistle on bass, and Keith Moon on drums. Keith Moon was known for his unique style and eccentric, self-destructive behavior but his drumming has been praised by critics and musicians to this day. He died from an accidental overdose of prescription pills at the age of 32.
Moon was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1982 and was voted second greatest drummer of all time in a readers poll by Rolling Stone magazine in 2011. The Who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. For more on the Who, check out the band’s official website here.
