Lake George is getting ready for a very frigid Polar Plunge event on New Year's Day.

According to The Record (Troy, NY), this year's annual Polar Plunge event will see brutally cold temperatures expected to reach -16 degrees overnight, and organizers are hoping the lake doesn't freeze over before Monday, Jan. 1. Comparing last year's event (about 1,200 people in all participated with bright sunshine and temps in the upper 30's). It won't be the same conditions this year. If the lake at Shepard Park Beach is frozen, officials will use underwater bubble machines to make sure the lake has open water. Registration for the event is $10 and will take place Sunday, Dec. 31 11am-4pm at Duffy's Tavern in Lake George. Registration will also take place beginning at 10:30am on Jan. 1 at Duffy's Tavern. Proceeds go to Lake George Fire Department and Shriner's International.

Will you be participating in this event for a great cause on New Year's Day?
